Therefore, once Aristotle has given his course on simple vocal sounds in his book of the Categories, in this book he sets himself the task [προτίθεται] of giving us the simple sentences which are completed out of the interweaving of the simple vocal sounds and which, since they are proposed by those who want to perform some syllogistic reasoning to their partners in reasoning, are called ‘propositions’ [προτάσεις].
